If you are using a Virgin Media Hub 3, 4, or 5, you might already suspect that it lacks serious network protection. While fast, these ISP-provided routers are often basic gateways that leave your internal network exposed.
But don’t worry. With the Firegate Security Box (developed by QuantumSabre) and our pre-configured router bundle, you can upgrade to full network security with zero technical skill required.
And yes — it works 100% with Virgin Media.
Why Your Virgin Media Hub Needs Extra Protection
Most ISP routers prioritize speed over security. The standard Virgin Hub lacks:
- ❌ Network-wide malware & phishing blocking
- ❌ Advanced Parental Controls (that can’t be easily bypassed)
- ❌ Real-time Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS)
- ❌ DNS-level filtering or tracker blocking
This means every device in your home is exposed — including smart TVs, tablets, and work laptops.
The Solution: The QuantumSabre Virgin Bundle
We have designed a specific solution for Virgin customers. By switching your Hub to “Modem Mode” and adding our hardware, you create a commercial-grade firewall for your home.
What you get in the box:
- ✅ Firegate Security Box: Powered by QuantumSabre’s Deep Packet Inspection technology.
- ✅ TP-Link AX1500 Router: Pre-configured to work instantly with Firegate.
- ✅ All Cables & Instructions: Colour-coded for a 5-minute setup.
Step-by-Step Setup Guide
You only need to do one technical thing: switch your Virgin Hub to “Modem Mode.” We handle the rest.
1. Switch Your Virgin Hub to Modem Mode
- Connect a device to your Virgin Hub via Wi-Fi or cable.
- Open a web browser and visit:
http://192.168.0.1 - Log in (Default password is usually on the sticker on the bottom of the Hub).
- Go to Advanced Settings → Modem Mode.
- Select “Enable Modem Mode” and click Apply.
- Wait about 5 minutes. Your Hub will reboot, and the light on the front will turn Magenta (Purple). This confirms it is in Modem Mode.
2. Connect the Firegate Box
- Take the provided Red Ethernet Cable.
- Plug one end into the LAN 1 port on your Virgin Hub.
- Plug the other end into the “IN” port on your Firegate Security Box.
3. Connect the Provided Router
- Take the provided Blue Ethernet Cable.
- Plug one end into the “OUT” port on your Firegate Box.
- Plug the other end into the WAN/Internet Port on the provided TP-Link Router.
4. Power On & Auto-Sync
- Plug in the power adapters for both the Firegate Box and the new Router.
- Wait about 60 seconds for the systems to boot up and handshake.
- Connect your phone or laptop to the new Wi-Fi network (details on the sticker).
That’s it. You are now protected by Firegate.
What Firegate Technology Does (Silently & Automatically)
Once connected, the Firegate technology works quietly in the background to inspect traffic before it hits your devices.
- Blocks Malware & Phishing: Stops you from accidentally loading dangerous sites.
- Stops Trackers: Prevents ad-trackers and silent data collectors.
- Local-Only Processing: No cloud analysis, no data harvesting. Your privacy stays in your home.
- Auto-Updates: QuantumSabre pushes security rule updates directly to the box via an encrypted channel.
Why Do I Need the Extra Router?
Virgin Media does not allow third-party routers to replace their Hub entirely. However, by using Modem Mode, the Virgin Hub becomes a “dumb” pipe that just passes the internet signal to us.
Because the Firegate Box sits in the middle, it filters the water before it reaches your tap. The included TP-Link AX1500 then distributes that clean, safe internet to your house with better range and speed than the standard Hub.
Who Is This For?
- Families: Finally get parental controls that apply to iPads, Xboxes, and phones instantly.
- Home Offices: Ensure your work traffic is clean and stable.
- Privacy Advocates: Anyone who wants “Private by Design” protection without monthly subscriptions.
